Looking at the ordinary
These containers may not be so ordinary to everybody, but they are essential for me as an artist and printmaker, for what they contain. Many of the bottles and objects are well used while others have been collected and kept because of their contents or purpose, or just for their shape and subtle differences.
I see this series of images as a homage to Morandi, a favourite artist of mine, inspirational for his extraordinary focus on humble objects, simple shapes and repetition.
My ordinary things are printed as linocuts in combination with woodblocks, because you can see the grain in the timber and lino gives you such clarity. All are unique state images on paper and later the woodblock plates themselves are framed and presented.
The titles reflect the time the works were made, a time of extra vigilance on cleanliness and protection.
