Atmospheric
In these works by Julie Bradley, abstracted forms imply cloud shapes and elements of the weather, wind, rain and storms and embody ideas of resilience and change. The symbol of the cloud especially the cumulus nimbus/ thunderhead, has associations of imagined other worlds and it was often used by the romantic poets as a metaphor not only for change and disruption in the world but also in our personal lives.
“And with deft confidence Julie uses her tools – the gouaches, the paper, the collages, to shape land and skyscapes that are as much of the interior world of emotions as the imagination.
She shows us what it feels like, not what it looks like, to be in a place. She evokes turmoil and beauty, peace and change, the things we feel as well as what we see, the territory of our minds’ eye as well as our direct vision.’’
