My project for the last few years has been painting Lake Alexandra in Mittagong through the seasons. I go to the lake frequently and gather visual information, keeping sketch books, making drawings, sometimes plein air paintings and taking photographs.

Symbiosis can be viewed from two perspectives.
The first is as sculpture. In this series, I explore the empty space formed by a structure and how changes to the structure alter the perception of that space accordingly. It is inspired by the Japanese concept of Ma, where an in-between empty space is the container of all its possibilities.
Limited Print Collection

My practice is inspired by the Australian landscape, from the shifting blues of the South Coast of NSW to the textured earth of the inland country.
Colour and texture are central to my work. Fragments of collage and veils of paint build into landscapes that are both observed and felt—shaped as much by memory and emotion as by place itself.

Can you hear the talking? is the culmination of autobiographical research from Burgess' visits to places of familial lineage in Ireland. The collection spans materials across image and sculpture, and is centred around photoetchings made from microscopic images of the artist’s body, moss, and stone, materials collected and collated over the course of five years.
